Key findings from this pack

  • PH and Vietnam tie on overall LPI but differ on customs.
  • Timeliness is a Philippine peer strength.
  • Container volume includes hub transshipment and does not measure domestic demand.
  • Older LPI observations and missing freight rows retain their coverage labels.

Methods & coverage

LPI editions and components

LPI is a perception-based survey of freight forwarders on a 1–5 scale. Small decimal differences do not establish precise league tables. The CSV uses the 2023 report edition; WDI stores those scores under 2022, when the survey was fielded. Brunei and Myanmar retain †2018 observations and are not current comparisons with the 2023 sample. Timor-Leste has no LPI observation.

Overall LPI, customs, infrastructure and timeliness remain separate panels. The complete CSV also includes international shipments, logistics competence, and tracking and tracing. The Philippines–Vietnam overall tie does not extend to customs. Peer mode includes only PH / MY / TH / VN / ID; Singapore remains regional context.

Freight scale is not domestic demand

Container traffic is displayed in millions of twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU), divided directly from the CSV. Transshipment counts as two lifts: Singapore and Malaysia’s hub traffic is not a measure of domestic freight demand or port efficiency. Brunei container data is older than the main vintage, and Timor-Leste retains a stale observation. Laos is landlocked and has no container-port series.

Air freight is measured in million tonne-kilometres, a physical logistics proxy. Laos has an older observation; Timor-Leste has none. Discontinued paved-roads percentages and road-density series are not supplied or estimated here.

Provenance and precision

Each observation retains its CSV source, year and as_of. LPI labels preserve the supplied decimal precision. Container labels show two decimals in millions; air freight shows up to one decimal. Bars use original values, and downloads and observation notes preserve original precision. Missing country–metric rows remain gaps, never zero.
