Key findings from this pack
- Among the same-year WDI observations, PH tax take trails Thailand and exceeds Singapore and Malaysia.
- Missing WDI tax observations remain gaps; IMF general-government revenue is separate context.
- Income and goods-and-services tax shares describe revenue composition, not statutory tax rates.
- Myanmar’s older observation and Timor-Leste’s Petroleum Fund require explicit country context.
Methods & coverage
Tax and revenue are different measures
WDI tax revenue and revenue excluding grants use IMF GFS-based indicators. The latter includes non-tax revenue. IMF DataMapper general-government revenue has different institutional coverage and classifications: it is context only, never a substitute for missing WDI tax. The separate IMF panel shows Vietnam, Brunei and Indonesia; the CSV retains the full IMF series.
Coverage and observation years
WDI tax and revenue observations are 2024 for Thailand, Philippines, Singapore and Malaysia; 2023 for Cambodia; 2022 for Laos and Timor-Leste; and 2019 for Myanmar. Brunei and Vietnam have no WDI observations in the pull, while Indonesia’s series ends in 2009 and is withheld. Myanmar’s older values carry a conflict/data-quality caveat. Each source’s as_of is preserved from the CSV, including the WDI API vintage rather than the later pack date.
Composition and the Petroleum Fund
Income taxes and goods and services taxes are shares of revenue, not statutory PIT, corporate or VAT rates. They are separate categories, not a complete stacked revenue total. Timor-Leste’s Petroleum Fund affects reported revenue excluding grants and IMF general-government revenue; it must not be included in ASEAN-10 means. This page calculates no regional averages.
Read alongside Fiscal & debt and Fiscal interest burden: collection capacity, debt stocks and interest-to-revenue burdens are distinct.
